Today, the second interim presentation for Graduation Research 1 was held! The assignments for the Robot Division and Image Processing Division were swapped from the previous session, and the students worked on their projects. We held a research demonstration at SP LAB 8 during the OIC Festival (Ritsumeikan University School Festival 2025)! We showcased demonstrations such as home appliances operating automatically in response to human actions and instructions, as well as a robot that delivers items to people who raise their hands! The booth was a huge success, and many visitors were able to experience the technology firsthand. Thank you to everyone who stopped by!

Professor Lee Joo-Ho delivered a keynote speech at EAI ICRESM 2025. In his lecture, he presented his latest research findings on vision-based self-localization for computationally constrained robots and mobile devices.
On October 27, 2025, Mr. Byoung Soo Kim, the CEO of ROBOTIS, visited Our Lab. It was a valuable opportunity for our students to present demonstrations of their ongoing research directly to the CEO. Having the chance to show our research outcomes and discuss them with the head of a world-leading company was a very stimulating and valuable experience for the students. We participated in The 2025 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2025), held from October 20-25, 2025, and presented one paper from our laboratory. We also won the Best Paper Award! Congratulations!

At “Ibaraki x Ritsumeikan DAY 2025,” we exhibited our research and robots at SP LAB 8. We had visitors of a wide range of ages, and the children’s reactions were particularly refreshing and memorable. It was a valuable opportunity for people to feel closer to the AIS Laboratory. On 3 Feb 2024, ten fourth‑year undergraduates presented their bachelor theses; on 6 Feb 2024, three second‑year master’s students presented their master theses. Afterward мы held a small celebration. Great work, everyone!

We attended SII 2024 (IEEE/SICE International Symposium on System Integration) in Ha Long, Vietnam, 8–11 Jan 2024. Bach Thuan Bui won the SIYA‑SII 2024 Award, and we enjoyed valuable experiences in Vietnam.

At the 39th Annual Conference of the Robotics Society of Japan, doctoral student Yasuyuki Fujii received the Young Presentation Award. Congratulations!

Thuan Bui Bach’s paper was published in the ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (visual localization, sparse features, absolute pose regression).
AIS‑Lab alumna Dr. Miran Lee received the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers’ Future Woman Award for her research with us after completing her PhD in 2021. Full list of 2021 JSME awardees: (link).

Yume Matsushita’s survey “Deep‑learning techniques in clinical applications based on gait” was published in the Journal of Computational Design and Engineering (Oxford University Press).
On 2 October 2021, Miran Lee earned her doctorate—our lab’s fourth PhD. Congratulations!

Six first‑year master’s students joined the two‑day online poster session of ROBOMECH 2020 (28–29 May 2020). Although their first conference went online, Facebook let them explore many other presentations in depth.
